Good to know
- Works with PDFs that contain real text (exported from Word, Google Docs, LaTeX, etc.).
- Scanned PDFs (images of pages) need OCR, which is not done locally — you will get a clear message listing the affected pages.
- Encrypted PDFs must be unlocked before converting.
PDF to Markdown: questions and answers
Can I convert a scanned PDF to Markdown?
No. Scanned pages are images and need OCR (optical character recognition), which this tool does not perform. The converter detects them and tells you which pages are affected. PDFs with real, selectable text convert normally.
Are tables and headings kept when converting a PDF?
The converter rebuilds paragraphs, headings and tables from the page layout. PDFs exported from Word, Google Docs or LaTeX usually give good results; complex multi-column or heavily designed layouts may need some manual clean-up.
Are images extracted from the PDF?
No. PDF conversion produces text-only Markdown; embedded pictures are not extracted.
Can I convert a password-protected PDF?
No. Encrypted PDFs must be unlocked first. Unprotected PDFs up to 50 MB are converted locally in your browser without uploading them.
